Operational decisions

Connect production performance with material readiness

A production total alone does not explain whether a plant is meeting its plan. Output, rejects, stoppages and material shortages describe different parts of the operating picture. We agree the question first, then identify which records can support a reliable comparison.

A first scope might review planned versus completed quantities by line, material cover or supplier delivery reliability. ERP exports, production logs and stock movements are checked for stable item identifiers and consistent units before being combined.

The stock preview illustrates material valuation, availability and reorder exceptions. It is a general inventory example with synthetic figures; your production measures would be defined from your own accepted sources.

Useful questions and measures

Plan attainment

Completed accepted quantity / agreed planned quantity, by product or line. Changes to the plan and partly completed orders need an explicit treatment.

Quality and yield

Accepted output, reject quantities and rework records. The denominator and treatment of reworked units are confirmed before a quality rate is reported.

Supplier readiness

Delivery dates, receipts and open purchase orders. Review late materials separately from finished production delays.

Interpretation and limits

Investigate delays before changing the plan

A low-output period may coincide with late materials, more rejects or recorded downtime. The dashboard makes those patterns visible, while the written findings distinguish a supported observation from an explanation that still needs confirmation.

Overall equipment effectiveness requires agreed availability, performance and quality definitions, including planned time and an appropriate ideal cycle rate. We would not label a simple output chart as OEE when those inputs are missing.

Start with one product group, one line or one reporting period. A broader plant view can follow once the source coverage and calculation rules have been accepted.

Useful starting data

  • Production orders: planned and completed quantities, product, line and date
  • Quality records: accepted, rejected and reworked quantities
  • Stock movements and supplier receipts with consistent units

For the Fit Check, describe the columns, approximate volume and time period. Do not send production credentials or personal records.

A focused first delivery

Choose one decision, one reporting period and an agreed set of sources. Receive the scoped dashboard, written observations, source assumptions and a documented handover.

The Fit Check identifies whether the data is suitable and recommends a fixed next step. Project price, exclusions, delivery environment and timing are confirmed in writing before work begins.

Before you begin

Can we calculate OEE from an ERP sales export?

No. OEE needs production and time data as well as agreed performance and quality rules. A sales export may support revenue questions, but not equipment effectiveness.

Can different units be combined?

Only after conversion rules are confirmed. Pieces, kilograms and batches cannot be added without a defined common basis.

Example project scope

A focused first project: materials and supplier readiness

Begin with the materials needed for a selected production group. We confirm the item mapping, units and expected receipt dates, then compare actual balances and outstanding deliveries with the agreed review rules.

Production throughput can be an additional view when accepted output and plan records exist. The operating preview below is a general synthetic report, not a factory production measurement or an OEE calculation.

The final scope specifies the question, accepted sources, excluded calculations and the output to be delivered. Any additional view is an agreed extension rather than an implied inclusion in every package.
